Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky, a Bolshevik revolutionary and statesman, held leadership roles from 1917 until his passing in 1926. He spearheaded the initial two Soviet secret police agencies, namely the Cheka and the OGPU, which were instrumental in creating state security mechanisms for the nascent Soviet government after the revolution. Dzerzhinsky played a pivotal role in designing and implementing the Red Terror and initiatives aimed at dismantling Cossack influence within the new Soviet state.
